Dr. Abhishek Mangeshikar

After completing medical school, Dr. Abhishek pursued a residency in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College and Hospital, graduating at the top of his class in 2014. He then spent a year in private practice alongside his father before undertaking a two-year fellowship in Minimally Invasive Gynaecology at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, Taiwan. During his fellowship, Dr. Abhishek performed over 250 advanced surgical procedures, including conventional laparoscopy, robotic surgery, single-port surgery, and Natural Orifice Transluminal Endoscopic Surgery (NOTES). In his second year, he was appointed Chief Fellow, where he played an active role in developing the training curriculum and mentoring incoming fellows and residents. During this period, he was awarded the prestigious International Gynecologic Cancer Society (IGCS) Travelling Scholarship for research in minimally invasive gynaecologic oncology. His research on sentinel lymph node mapping in gynaecological cancers has also been published. Dr. Abhishek is passionate about teaching laparoscopic gynaecology. He is currently a faculty member at CEMAST, Mumbai, and the Kiel School, Germany. He has also been appointed to the Board of the Asia-Pacific Association for Gynecologic Endoscopy (APAGE) and serves as Course Convener for its training programs in India. In addition, he has been invited as faculty at several international workshops, including IRCAD (Taiwan), ALEXEA (Alexandria, Egypt), and Foshan, China. He has received extensive training in advanced gynaecologic endoscopy at one of the world’s leading centres for minimally invasive surgery. His expertise includes laparoscopic management of gynaecological cancers, including radical hysterectomies, pelvic and para-aortic lymphadenectomies, ovarian cancer, and endometrial cancer. In benign gynaecology, he has extensive experience in the management of deep infiltrating endometriosis, complex myomectomies, and hysterectomies. He is also proficient in single-port and robotic surgery, offering patients minimally invasive procedures with enhanced cosmetic outcomes. Dr. Abhishek is among the first Indian gynaecologists to introduce Natural Orifice Transluminal Endoscopic Surgery (NOTES)—a scarless form of laparoscopic surgery that combines the precision and magnification of laparoscopy with the cosmetic advantages of vaginal surgery. This innovative technique was pioneered at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, where he trained. He is also a co-author of one of the world’s largest published series on NOTES procedures. A key area of Dr. Abhishek’s expertise is minimally invasive gynaecologic oncology. His approach enables women with gynaecological cancers to undergo complex and radical cancer surgeries through advanced laparoscopic techniques, offering the benefits of faster recovery, less pain, reduced blood loss, and improved cosmetic outcomes without compromising oncological principles.
