Truly “Sushrut”!!! justifies the legacy of the sage! “Sanjeevani Hospital” is quite homely, unlike certain “commercial enterprises” that are exhorting the patients. More importantly – immaculately performed knee replacement surgery – gives a sense of success and adds new life to the patients! Dr. Sushrut, entire staff, ambience exudes good vibes and a kind of positivity you feel in the vastu is truly amazing! Feels like everyone in the hospital are gearing for success. My mother like most other patients was extremely apprehensive, full of prejudices, and had unending preconceived ideas about surgery and rehab. While some of these were understandable and practically genuine concerns – related to toileting, hygiene, personal care, etc., we should know that these are transitional phases leading to rehab, but, certainly demands due care, attention, empathy, and compassion – all aspects of nursing. Sanjeevani has a well-oiled system and experienced staff to extend this care. Although I’m no expert, but, since technology is evolving (robotics, etc.) – we tend to believe that it will do wonders. My understanding is - while technology can be assistive, the core principles and expertise of surgery remains the same. Hence, there is no replacement of trained surgeons. Dr. Sushrut explained what platform will be used in the OT and was all through there to bring new life to ailing legs. Counselling: Most patients need counselling from surgeon and it’s a first step in total knee replacement (TKR). The prevailing and growing current commercial practices in the market, doesn’t care for these aspects, these commercial establishments means money and numbers. Like Bollywood and cricket, we tend to rate surgeons as well – number one, number two…… this may not be correct way of thinking, as surgeons are meant to do good to patients not play or act. Moreover, whole lot of other aspects are of equally high importance – distance, convenience, hospital staff, hygiene, money, and most importantly treatment. Howsoever successful doctor may be, if a hospital becomes shop or market place, we should seriously think over it rather than following the herd. Ethics, humanity, and compassion: As stated earlier, with exponential commercialization of knee surgeries - there is equally proportionate drop in ethics, humanity, and compassion towards patient. Sanjeevani is an exception to this. In this world of commercialization – Sanjeevani upholds its ethics, humanity and everyone within hospital right from doctor to janitor are compassionate towards patient’s situation. Dr. Sushrut is an amazing individual, extremely committed to his profession and technologically driven, very grounded, approachable, and personally understands an addresses patient’s concerns. Transparency – While most surgeons use imported implants, patient’s family may be clueless as to what actually goes inside. But, at Sanjeevani practices are very transparent. Although Dr. did inform earlier what implant will be used, but, post surgery, staff diligently shared actual implants boxes along with invoices copies – it was quite reassuring, ensuring use of the best quality in the business. Time is the essence – that’s business – most commercial enterprises operates and discharges patients within three days. In fact, that’s what flagrantly being propagated, advertised, and hammered everywhere. But, it’s mostly not true. Post operative care is equally and critically important. If commercial enterprises are throwing out patients fast, so that they can do more numbers; it doesn’t help patients, especially senior citizens. At Sanjeevani – Dr. Sushrut extends that extra time, care, and compassion to make rehab a smooth experience. Lastly, we need to be practical and realistic about outcome of the TKR surgery, as it depends on age and medical history of a patient. That said, It's been a year now and my mother isn’t running like an athlete, but, walks upto 80% and works upto 95% of her potential. Thanks to Sanjeevani!
