Doctor is good and good knowledge

I had great concerns about possible dietary, digestive, changes after laparoscopic cholecystectomy, even after researching extensively on Quora and elsewhere online. The surgeons will tell you that about 20% of people have some issue(s) of the above kind for a few weeks to a few months, but that only a small percentage have permanent major changes. This is all good and fine as long as you are not in the category of the long-term affected — and this is what caused me apprehension and hesitancy. I am happy to say — and here to say — that my worries were not validated. I am more than three months out from my surgery in December 2025. No changes in bowel habits (except for one or two loose, semi-urgent stools a few days after surgery) or digestion. No changes to my diet. Although most of us should eat less fat, I don’t avoid fatty foods, and I digest them as I did before surgery — except, of course, without the aid of my gallbladder. My digestion feels the same without the organ. I expect this to be my status quo for the rest of my life. Some quick history. I’m 40. Numerous gallstones were identified. Gallbladder removal was recommended vs. trying to dissolve or break up the stones. Health was and is relatively good except for moderate GERD, which was unrelated to the gallbladder issue. Surgery was outpatient. Prior to the operation, I had read and heard that the “body can function fine without the gallbladder,” and that certainly seems to be true in my case. (I do wonder if the organ had been slowly failing over many years, and my body had already adapted.) I feel lucky, and am glad I committed to the surgery.
