Dr. Sai Shankar is a Pediatric and Neonatal Intensivist, specialising in Pediatric Cardiac Critical Care and Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO). He completed his MBBS from M.S. Ramaiah Medical College, Bangalore, and his MD in Pediatrics from Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute.
Dr. Sai’s advanced training includes a Fellowship in Pediatric Critical Care from Southampton Children's Hospital, UK, and a Fellowship in Neonatal Intensive Care from Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust, UK. He further enhanced his expertise by pursuing a specialised Fellowship in Pediatric ECMO and Cardiac Critical Care at The Royal Children's Hospital, Melbourne, Australia.
Dr. Sai’s clinical and academic interests encompass organ physics, cardiopulmonary interactions, and sepsis management. His core expertise includes pediatric ECMO, retrieval of critically ill children, and high-fidelity medical simulation. Throughout his career, he has conducted nearly 400 retrievals of ventilated children, including ECMO cases, via air, land, and water.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Sai is deeply involved in medical research, education, and innovation. His interests span data science, human factors in healthcare, and public health. He is a passionate educator in critical care medicine and an advocate for integrating technology into healthcare systems.
As a co-founder of health-tech ventures, Dr. Sai has contributed to transformative solutions, including a remote patient monitoring platform recognised by The Economic Times as one of the 'Best Remote Patient Monitoring Solutions for COVID-19 in India.' He also spearheaded a tech-enabled solution designed to streamline scientific research workflows, with a focus on interdisciplinary innovation and improving healthcare outcomes.
